One Percent Changes — Day 5. Shopping with Intention

Not gonna lie. Day 5 has been a bit harder.

My jeans are looser though — a lot! Other clothes fit better/feel better on. I am so happy! And so motivated!

I didn’t really think about it when I mentioned to Jim I’d love a breakfast biscuit for breakfast! I was hungry because we had all slept in and, honestly, I just wasn’t up for a hard-boiled egg and 1/2 a bagel — really my only option this morning except for cold cereal. Oh my gosh! What a treat! It was delicious!

Interesting . . . about 1/2 way through the biscuit, I regretted that I had decided to have it. I thought of all the fat and carbs . . . I remembered that I had some It Works Fat Fighter in the cabinet, so I enjoyed my treat and took one of them afterward.

When I got up this morning, I decided to weigh myself, even though I’ve said I wasn’t going to focus on the pounds lost, I was just curious. At least 7 pounds!! In 5 days!! So exciting! I say at least, because I used the weight of my last doctor appointment a couple of weeks ago.

Today I did great at lunch. But then, after everyone left and I was sitting on the couch writing and then my stomach growled . . . first thoughts: fist full of chips . . . Kroger bakery cookie . . . you see where I was going. But, I was smart! This morning as we were grocery shopping I stocked up on apples — fiber dense/fillin — and other fruit I could cut up for snacks.

My day 5 tip: be proactive! Plan to be tempted. Make a mental note of healthy(ier) snacks you can have when the munchies set in. Be aware of your triggers too. Remember, I commented I struggle the most when I’m not active — even if I’m being productive — even when I’m writing . . . I realize it’s mental craving vs. physical at this point, but the cravings are real and if I’m to fight them, I have to be ready to counter them.

Some unintended benefits of this health and wellness journey are definitely better mental clarity and more energy. What has surprised me is how quickly both have improved! It’s going to be a long road. But I am confident I can do this because I’m keeping the end result in mind.

My big goal: be off all four prescriptions I am currently taking by the end of the year! I know my doctor will be happy when I get to that point! That will mean my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are at acceptable levels!

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Cor. 12:9 NIV).
